saskatoon berry pickin’ double-date

We had the best time this weekend checking out The Saskatoon Farm for the first time with our friends Jenny and Andy. It was the perfect Saturday – not too sunny and not too cloudy – just perfect for wandering through the berry orchard picking the tiny juicy berries one by one. It became quite a zen activity, getting lost and focusing on the act of gathering. Going to a U-Pick is an excellent double-date idea – not only do you all bond while doing something totally oldfashioned and traditional but you also have some delicious profits after your pick. In our case, Jenny cooked a couple of cups of the Saskatoons on the stove with some water + sugar and drizzled the deliciousness over vanilla bean ice cream. Totally worth the wait!

The best thing about going to a U-Pick is after you bake the pie and serve it up to friends – you can actually say you handpicked every single berry in the pie. Lazier folks might op for the pre-picked buckets for $20 but the quality might not be quite as good as your own.
