Wrapped Books DIY

I love the look of wrapped books. Do you remember wrapping your textbooks during grade school? I just loved the scent of the brown craft paper and creasing the folds just so. Here is a super fun way to dress up some of those books on your shelf that have seen better days. Just grab some pretty wrapping paper and you’ve got yourself a stack worth showing off. Check out the full tutorial over at Swerve Magazine.

Also, don’t you just loved those Andy Warhol soup cans from Target? My lovely friend Micaela in Texas managed to pick them up for me! What a girl….

life lately according to my instagram

man, life is busy! i have been having the best time ever lately – busy with some really fun DIY projects over at Swerve, shopping for spring and getting ready for our easter weekend vacation. my husband’s parents also moved back to calgary so we’ve been busy seeing them and getting them settled in their new place (which is pretty magical – cant wait to take some photos there).  sometimes life should just go a little slower – i can hardly believe it is april already. its likely i will need a vacation from my vacation but life moves on! i honestly cannot complain. my day job over here has been equally crazy busy and we are gearing up for some super exciting announcements for may!

anyways, here is what my life has been like lately according to my instagram. you can follow me here: @yuppielove

a fine line between pouting and poutine

I love Fridays.  A perfect work day ended in poutine dinner with two lovely lovely girlfriends, Elyse and Marbella.  We tried out this brand new poutinerie on 17th Avenue called The Big Cheese.  It was so delicious but I am definitely going to have to do the 30 day Shred and go for a bike ride tonight to make up for it.  I was super excited because they had gluten-free gravy on all of their vegetarian poutines so I had the LOADED Poutine which had sauteed mushrooms, onions, green peppers, and peas along with the traditional cheese curds and french fries.  It was delicious — it kind tasted like the British version of poutine especially with the peas.  Delish.  Marbella had the Nacho Poutine which was pretty tasty and Elyse had a bacon-loaded Traditional Poutine which looked heavenly.

My latest article in Swerve Magazine came out today all about how to pack a carry-on suitcase for your honeymoon or vacation.  I picked out my favourite must-haves for this Spring and Summer like big sunglasses, wrinkle-free trenchcoats, and adorable peeptoe flats.  Check it out!

Hope everyone has a great weekend! xo

happy friday

Happy Friday!  How are you doing today?  I’ve been having a great start to the day, with some exciting new writing projects on my horizon, the sun actually shining today, and lot of great news in various publications today. Oh, and I had an awesome chai latte this morning with a friend.

A photo I took at Princes’ Island Park last summer.

My very good friend & photographer Heather Saitz has a cover story in today’s issue of Swerve Magazine.  If you love medium-format photography and imagery reminiscent of vintage postcards and nostalgic afternoons spent in diners and bus shelters, you must read her cover feature, The Bus Stopped Here.

You might have already read the latest supplement of My Favourite Place featuring my friend and AMAZING designer, Chelsea Watson, but if you haven’t read her beautiful feature on Calgary’s eclectic neighbourhood you can read it here Hillhurst/Sunnyside.

Calgary seems to have a lot going for it right now in terms of amazing arts-related projects and centres.  Check out this article in Canadian Art Magazine, Calgary Report: An Artist-Run Alberta.  Another great article in today’s Herald details a new arts centre to be built near Springbank, Artists Donate $6 Million for Arts Centre.  It is things like this that keep people like Heather and Chelsea in our blessed little city.  And me too.
