in like a lion, out like a lamb

I can’t believe it is March already.  This year seems to be flying by at lightning speed.  That is a good thing though because its a sign of being busy and immersed in life and work and love.  I’m happy.  I had a great weekend spent with Mr. Honey and our friends Jenny & Andy.  They are set to get married this coming August and it is always nice to get an update on the wedding plans.  We had a lovely greasy breakfast at the Galaxie Diner – I tried to stick to my cleanse with only 3 days left but I couldn’t resist their amazing hashbrowns as well as sharing a chocolate milkshake with Byron.  I am almost certain I am going to eliminate dairy for good because I didn’t feel too awesome after the milkshake — lots of asthamatic-symptoms.  That is okay because I am loving Almond Breeze milk.  Healthy, tasty, unsweetened and full of calcium.  Anyways, after breakie we wandered down to 17th Ave in search of coffee.  I remembered I had bought a Groupon for the newly opened Chiasso Coffee.  Right across from Thompson’s Park this cafe is gorgeously designed inside and houses incredible coffees.  Since I am still avoiding caffiene for the most part I had a decaf coffee and it was fantastic.  I highly reccommend this great coffee shop.  After our warm beverage cravings had been satisfied we headed down to the Glenbow Museum to check out the Brian Eno exhibit and see what else was going down there.  The exhibit was gorgeous and we sat there watching the 77 Million Paintings morph before our eyes for over an hour.  Fantastic.  Not much else has changed in the upper levels unfortunately but it was interesting nonetheless.  It was a lovely weekend!  Things are starting to get busy again — I have a couple projects on the go for Swerve which is great – I love having the opportunity to share some of Calgary’s most interesting people with the Swerve readers.  I’ve also started my spring preserving starting with Wicked Key Lime Marmalade and some more of the sparkly Blood Orange Marmalade.  I expect a Market Collective to happen sometime in the next couple of months so I working hard to be prepared with plenty of yummy new things!  Other than that, it’s been Banjo Time, All the Time at our house right now which is great.  I love that instrument and Byron is learning it so quickly.  Can’t wait for us to share some videos when he can actually play some songs.

Lots of great new things happening on the web this week too!

Alyssa Yuhas from We Like We Love has two amazing features up this week on some fabulous blogs: Tour her home at The Ten Cent Designer  (certainly one of my absolute new favourite blogs) and check out a day in her life at DesignLoveFest.

My favourite local designer & pal, Aly Velji has a fabulous new article up on New Home Living, all about his gorgeous bathroom renovation.  It is truly breathtaking.  I need to get on that whole ‘buying-a-house’ thing because I would invite Aly over and we would have a hell of a time wallpapering, painting, and styling.

There is still time to enter Sadie Designs Getting to Know You Giveaway.  Sarah makes absolutely beautiful jewellery — you will want to win this gorgeous piece.  Stay tuned for her guest post on Yuppie Love all about her favourite place: Halifax.  That will be up on Saturday so be sure to check it out!  I will also be doing a guest appearance on Sadie Designs blog in April featuting a day in the life of Kait — I will be sure to post a link to that when it is published.  Can’t wait to be a part of Sadie for a day!

If you live in Calgary and love food, prepare yourself for the Big Taste.  Quote: “11 days of Intoxicating New Tastes” starts off Friday.  Its a great way to try out new restaurants at a set price.  Lunches are usually $20 – 35 while dinners can range from $30 – $85 depending on the wine & chef selections.  I plan to check out Buchanan’s Chop House & Whisky Bar with my sister-in-law Vanda & Co.  I also would love to check out dinner at CHARCUT as I have only ever been there for drinks & appetizers.  Definitely worth perusing the menus.  I am sure you will find something you will enjoy!
