Those are my darling friends Brie and Marbella at a photoshoot today I did with them involving summer and forts. I am so lucky to have sweet pals like them. Just lovely. Oh ya, this summer has been so busy — apologies for the absence. My weekend will be full of photos and writing and canning and twitter and making pretty things so expect to see a lot more of me next week! Tonight I am having a birthday party at a rock show. Its not my birthday until Tuesday but its a great night to party. xoxo
Retro Exercise of the Week New Swerve Mini Series
I just started a new mini series for the summer on Swerve’s website called Retro Exercise of the Week. This week — the SKIP-IT! Honestly, bring the Skip-It back into your fitness routine….you will be laughing away the calories. Watch for next week’s!
as western as i get….
I am in the midst of the ten day Western sprawl that is otherwise known as the Calgary Stampede. I have no plans this year to hit the Stampede Grounds — a rooftop patio was as far as I went this year. It was a lovely party and I love to dress Western all year round (as does Mr Honey — you’ve likely seen him in a several western shirts in my photos) so Stampede always makes me wary of the faux cowboys. However, some really do put their own spin on the western look as you can by my friends below. I was even featured on Shaw’s Saddle Up Stampede Dos & Donts that was hosted by my lovely friends Aly & Jason. Don’t worry I was a DO! Phew….
summer eats!
summertime is all about eating one big meal a day because its so hot out and you can hardly comprehend eating anything other than pizza and ice cream. and lots and lots of coffees. summer eats are my favourite kind of eats and not just because you can eat them outside. i’ve been some great places this summer so far. selkirk grill, nanton main street cafe, libertine, diner deluxe, WURST, and without papers pizza.
i aint nothing without a mtn to sit on
We are just so lucky to live in a city that is only an hour & a bit away from such beautiful mountains. It makes me so happy we can just pick up and dash to our favourite mountain hideaways in no time at all and relish in the absolute beauty and solitude they bring. Doesn’t hurt that my family doctor is in Banff from when I lived there and she is the absolute best and worth the drive. We had a perfect time as usual with a visit to Magpie & Stump for some yummy mexican and jar drinks. Was wonderful and silly. I live with the best person ever. Enjoy the view.
what i’ve been looking at

My lovely friends (Elyse) & () were featured in our local culture rag, FFWD as part of the fun “Your Face Here” column featuring their fun blog We Like Nice Boys. Such a fun project and showcases some great guys in our town. Can’t wait for them to debut We Like Nice Girls sometime in the future — I know a lot of nice girls! Anyways, pick up a copy of FFWD if you live in Calgary or check it out here online: Lovely Girls.
My pal (Rob Waye) was just featured on Swerve’s new online YYC Style feature which is pretty cool. I mean, obviously Rob is super famous now so he is pretty much in every magazine and blog. (He was actually the first NICE BOY on We Like Nice Boys). Also, in Swerve news, my amazing editor Meghan Jessiman showed off her street fashion know-how and photo skills last night shooting photos at the Broken Social Scene concert at the Wildhorse Saloon downtown Calgary. Check out her great photos here — I especially love the guy who is wearing a Hudson Bay shirt — great style!
If you don’t already follow my friend of Sadie Designs, you should. Look at what she tweeted today:
I just think that is the sweetest, romantic tweet I have seen in awhile. I am so happy for her and her guy Jeff, because they are getting married in September and I am so excited for them. Check out her adorable “marriage-license-obtaining” photos. I am in love.
daily inspiration: butter.
Today I wanted to share some inspiration created around one of the most iconic and most used food items of the Western world: butter. Butter has inspired dishes and pats, leather bags, paint colours, and fabric swatches. It has even inspired a woman (yes, I had to throw in a little Paula Deen there!). It has inspired creatives, fontmakers, food stylists, and ceramic artists alike. Butter beer, buttermilk pancakes, buttercream icing, just plain old butter. There ain’t nothing not to like about it, unless of course, you are vegan.
what i’m lookin’ at & listenin’ to:
When I pulled up her page the first image was from one of my favourite scenes in the movie, Bridesmaid. Kristen Wiig is one of my favourite people ever so this just confirmed I was going to like what I see in the rest of ‘s tumblr.
inspired by Kate Spade’s June Colour of the Month. Now I also want to make everything on my blog super glittery and pretty! Easy and fun for people who like tooling around on photoshop and illustrator.
Cassis Bistro. Just came across this Calgary bistro online last night and I fell absolutely in love with their website. It’s all in the packaging people. This website is going to make me become a customer. Just like that – with a carefully chosen photograph and a well-worded quote. Excited to check it out.
Jasper Sloan Yip. Missed this guy when he flew thru during Sled Island so I am super excited that he is playing this upcoming Saturday at the Marquee Room. Honest fun pop music.
Americania Hotel, San Francisco. When we were in SF for our Honeymoon we stayed across the street from this place in an equally cute hotel. I think if we budget enough and are able to make it to the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival this fall we should definitely stay here. It looks like so much fun!
Back to work tomorrow! Happy 4th of July to all my American Friends!!! xoxo

happy weekend!
Hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful long weekend! Had plans to bicycle from Banff to Canmore today but thanks to a sore knee we ended up having a hot, slow, lovely day in small town Alberta exploring antique shoppes and sipping iced coffees. Perfect Saturday! xo
Happy Canada Day Music Pick: The Group Sound
I fell in love with The Group Sound a couple months ago after listening to their first release ‘Secret Girlfriend’, a completely swoon-worthy 50s crooner/garage rock mash-up. The great news is they just released their full length album that just happens to be even more of a 1950s backseat makeout session than I had even hoped. You can buy the download for $5 on bandcamp or you can get in touch with the band to buy the full length tape. It is so worth it. ‘Your Ex-BF’ is my favourite track of the moment.
Oh yes and just look at how sweet they are:
