a mountain-top wedding

This past weekend, Byron and I attended the third wedding I have ever been to (including my own)! It was the wedding of my longtime friend Jenny and her lovely man Andy. They are adventurers so having a wedding on top of mountain certainly seems suiting to them.  It was at the Kickinghorse Mountain Resort’s Eagle’s Eye Restaurant and it was breathtaking.  We were higher than any surrounding mountain.  It was a such a beautiful wedding and I was so happy to see my oldest friend (we met on the first day of Junior High) get married to such a great guy.  I look forward to spending more time with them when they return from their epic West Coast honeymoon.  Enjoy the view:

I had to include this cool shot of Andy’s Dad. So perfect.

flavour of the week

Dearests! I have a guest post over at one of my favourite blogs, Sadie Designs, this week all about my Rad Summer in Seattle. I promise lengthy posts about each day of our vacation very soon.  I just need a quick moment to breathe after being so busy this month, a epic weddings, it suddenly becoming September this week — I need to digest this! Anyways, check out the blog post for a snapshot of our trip! It was absolutely lovely.

My latest Lomo Analogue Musings is now up over at Lomography! This was a really fun post as it is all about the night I went out for my birthday, early August.  I used my Diana Mini F+ with a hot pink lens gel! The pictures turned out amazing! I can’t wait to share more of my Lomo snapshots with you into September!

My lady friends and have launched the #8 issue of We Like We Love and it is utterly fabulous and full of delicious autumn-inspired fashion and life.

lomo love

I have loved Lomo for a long time.  I still remember my first Lomo.  An ActionSampler, not actually mine but borrowed from the lab at school.  It was a couple of years later in University after exploring hand-made toy cameras and experimenting with pinhole photography, I bought the Diana+ not long after it was first re-released.  I loved the 120 film and luckily at the time I was able to develop my film myself and when I moved to Banff to work at The Banff Centre, my friend worked in the lab there and took great care of my rolls.  Sadly, later on as all University students are, I became very poor, couldn’t afford to develop my film any longer, and had to sell my Diana+ to a fellow toy camera fantatic.  Luckily, I have a very generous brother who bought me the Diana Mini F+ as a gift and I began shooting again.  Byron and I received a SuperSampler as a fabulous wedding gift complete with a pile of film which went to great use on our honeymoon.  And now most recently, I have started shooting with the La Sardina, Lomography’s latest release.  The fabulous people at Lomo sent it to me to experiment and play with.  In the meantime while I use up all my rolls of film, I have started blogging for the Lomography Canada Analogue Lifestyle Blog which is a lot of fun!  The Online Community is amazing — having the opportunity to connect with great analogue photographers all over the world is so amazing and the feedback is great.  You can check out my first blog post here: Yuppie Love x Lomo

Cue the Pop Culture Baby Boom

Talk about a good excuse to get busy! The province of Ulyanovsk, Russia is planning
a scheduled baby boom for June 12, 2012. Russian couples will be getting frisky on
their government-instated “day off from work”, September 12, to work on inflating the
population a little. Talk about civic duty and ultimate patriotism. It all started in 2007
when the Russian Governor Sergei Morozov had to implement a program that would
counteract the rapidly dropping number of births in Ulyanovsk. It is hard to say whether
the citizens were not falling in love and creating families (is Russia romantic?) – or
simply the birth control had gotten SO good that it was near impossible to get pregnant
– bottom-line women were not giving birth and that was a problem. To solve this
Morozov started a new official holiday entitled “Family Contact” day, otherwise known
as Conception Day. I am unsure as to why a mass adoption program wasn’t introduced
instead but I guess the patriotic Russian pride was more important.

Analogue photography revolutionaries Lomography based in Vienna are hosting an
international contest in honour of this arousing holiday. Basically, the LOMO fiends
are encouraging their friends to follow in Russia’s footsteps (or trail of strewn clothing)
and be a part of the June 12, 2012 baby boom. Because LOMO can’t have a decent
contest without some witty designer camera created specifically for it, they just launched
the Lomo LC-A Russia Day. Bold in red and black, a white line drawing sperm wiggles
above the viewfinder. While you don’t need the Russia Day camera to win the contest,
you will need an analogue film camera of some sort. The contest requires you to
photograph yourself with your sweetheart and upload it to the LOMO website. Next,
on September 12 you will be required to, you know, get it on, and if all goes according
to plan you or your ladyfriend will be battling scream-worthy contractions in about nine
months.

Oh, this isn’t all in vain, of course. If you do indeed give birth on June 12, 2012 – upload
a photograph of your offspring as well as their birth certificate as proof and you could win
a one-of-a-kind Russian Family Van. And who doesn’t want one of those?
