holiday pie topper project

Last week I showed you holiday cupcake toppers – this week I am stepping it up a notch (we are talking near-Martha levels here) with holiday pie toppers complete with mini banners! Who says cupcakes are the only baked good that should get their toppers.  Our crusted friend, the pie deserves a piece of the action as well. These pie toppers are great for holiday potlucks as a unique way of labeling your contribution to the table.

Supplies:
Bamboo Skewers
String
Patterned Cardstock in your colour of choice
Scissors
White Glue

Tissue Paper

Pie (Homemade or store-bought – we won’t tell)

Optional: Alphabet Pasta

  1. Start off by measuring your pie (or pie plate, if you haven’t baked it yet). You will want your pie topper to sit in the middle of the pie so I would suggest a width of about four inches. Cut a piece of string to this width and tie to each skewer. Using the white glue, secure each knot with a small dot of glue. Allow a few minutes to dry.
  2. Depending where your inspiration takes you, cut out flower shapes or bunting banner triangles.
  3. Glue pieces to string, equally spaced and allow to dry.
  4. Optional: using dry Alphabet Pasta spell out the flavour of pie you made and glue to your mini banner.
  5. Place in skewers in the pie, slap on a Suzie-Homemaker-apron and prepare yourself for your friends to swoon in shock and amazement.

Check out our recipes and Kate’s illustrations over at this gorgeous publication. While you are at get inspired by the entire issue. Sigh, wlwl does so many things right….♥♥♥
