Hello, I’m ! I am a travel and lifestyle writer/blogger based in uptown Calgary, Alberta, Canada, producing prose on travel, style, entertaining and home décor on a daily basis.

Obsessed with beautiful design, I am constantly looking for the next Big Thing. When I am not window-shopping (most likely online) you may find me spray-painting thrifted treasures in the back alley behind my apartment – though, to be honest, I am trying to quit. I’ve hosted two very fun crafting workshops at Anthropologie Calgary with plans for more in 2014.

I live to travel and am not happy unless I am busily planning out my next adventure. Whether it be a roadtrip to Austin, Texas with my husband or a press junket to wine country, it is pretty much guaranteed I am daydreaming about it RIGHT NOW. As if I don’t have enough problems YOLO-ing it up in my spare time, I happen to live 45 minutes away from the beautiful Rocky Mountains (think Banff and Lake Louise) – so as you can imagine, I try to head there as much as possible!

WHAT IS UP WITH THE NAME?

The name “YUPPIELOVE” was made up by me back when I started this blog as a place to chronicle our wedding plans. I thought it was an excellent jerky play on words and somehow it just stuck. Don’t ask me about the dot-org URL. I clearly had issues back in 2009 and didn’t understand the value of a dot-com.

DO YOU DEFINE YOURSELF AS A BLOGGER?

I’ve been blogging on and off since 2003 in all sorts of mediums from LiveJournal to MySpace to Blogspot to WordPress. If you look really hard you can still find them. From 2007 until 2009, I had a semi-popular print zine called Kitschykoo! Subcultural Lifestyle which then morphed into the recession-friendly blog New Canadian Modern which focused on Canadian garage rock and profiles on musical personalities in the scene. I shut down the site in 2011 to move my passions elsewhere. I currently still use the name New Canadian Modern as the name for my hand-knit baby booties that I sometimes sell at The UnCommons in Inglewood, Calgary.

WHERE CAN I READ YOUR WORK?

A regular contributor to Swerve Magazine’s Living section, my tear sheets span surviving clothing swaps to interviewing wrestling costume designers all the way to instructing on how to pack one carryon suitcase for a two week trip.  In 2012, I was the Calgary editor for Vitamin Daily, as well as contributing in the past to Air Canada’s enRoute magazine and Lomography Canada’s online Magazine. I have also recently been featured in AvenueUPPERCASE and WeLikeWeLove magazines. You can see more of my recent work on my portfolio site.

I currently blog about neighborly activities on The Neighborhood and you can also find me sharing my favourites and finds on the Downtown Calgary getdown.ca blog. I’ve also been known to share a good travel story or cocktail recipe on Huffington Post Canada.

WHAT ARE YOU WORKING ON NOW?

I am in the midst of locally-focused mapping project with my good friend The 10cent Designer aka Lori Andrews – it is called WANDERMAPS.

I also have big plans to re-ignite my Will You Be My Pal? networking party series in 2014.  Stay tuned for that.
