swooning over the curiosity shoppe @ target

Currently obsessing over The Curiosity Shoppe‘s line for Target that is coming out in a couple of weeks. I just can’t believe the beautiful wooden kitchen items like the arrow salad spoons or the American map cheese board? Not to mention the adorable printed napkins and placemats. Oh gosh!

I am going to have to get one of my US friends to hook me up with some of the goods! Not sure I can live without those arrow and tipi plates.

design love // carolyn quartermaine

Just fell in love with Carolyn Quartermaine‘s beautiful textiles and styling. Her upholstered chairs are so stunning that if I owned one I swear, I would just sit on another chair and gaze at it lovingly. Everything about her colour palette makes me happy inside and I wish I could deck out my whole house with her beautiful fabric panels.

make it // chalkboard bottles

Make it! Excited to share this super easy DIY with you on this gorgeous Friday! These stunning matte black chalkboard bottles make the perfect addition to your dinner table. Make enough for a dinner table, fill with fresh flowers and personalize by writing each guest’s name on them with chalk. A perfect take-away from a perfect evening with friends.

what you’ll need:

old bottles or jars ( i even used an old POM bottles because i love the shape!)
chalkboard paint
foam brushes
chalk

Paint thick strokes over the clean washed bottles. I did two coats on mine to ensure full coverage. Let dry for two hours before drawing with chalk.

Personalize them and set them up in your home. I even doodled on some of mine with some pretty stripes and dots.

Perfect for storing art supplies such as coloured pencils and paintbrushes. Bring it into the bedroom and store makeup brushes and more. I personally love them in the kitchen with fresh flowers and herbs.

Let me know what you would use yours for! Happy DIY Friday!

HUNGRY // the pristine kitchen

I spent a good chunk of yesterday cleaning out my kitchen cabinets and getting rid of one-off plates and cups and really paring down to the stuff I really love. Luckily, my brother is moving out for the first time so I can totally pass along a ton of the stuff to him!

Totally inspired by Crate + Barrel’s beautiful white kitchen accessories right now. I have to say the Cookie Jar is so gorgeous. It looks like a porcelain cast of an old glass jar. You can’t beat the prices at C+B either.

I wish I could paint our whole kitchen white. Currently, it has black countertops and backsplash which always looks dirty and shows stains. The things you have to put up with when you rent…. :)

What is your ideal kitchen? Are you like me and love fresh + light designs? Or are you more into a dramatic dark kitchen? Somewhere in between?

daily inspiration: butter.

Today I wanted to share some inspiration created around one of the most iconic and most used food items of the Western world: butter.  Butter has inspired dishes and pats, leather bags, paint colours, and fabric swatches.  It has even inspired a woman (yes, I had to throw in a little Paula Deen there!).  It has inspired creatives, fontmakers, food stylists, and ceramic artists alike.  Butter beer, buttermilk pancakes, buttercream icing, just plain old butter.  There ain’t nothing not to like about it, unless of course, you are vegan.

Mothers Day Love

Mother’s Day was yesterday and it was a gorgeous celebration of my Mom!  I hosted the dinner at our place.  We had steak, roasted potatoes, and steamed asparagus.  I had lots of leftover cherry pie that I had made for Saturday so we had that warmed up with a dollop of greek yogurt.  Heavenly. Afterwards, Byron and I treated everyone to a concert at the Ironwood: Ladies of the Canyon and Old Man Luedecke.

Setting dinnertables is one of my favourite things to do.  I love layering dishes, cake stands, doilies and napkins.  So much fun!

Symmetry.

Here is my homemade card for Mom.  Byron and I are getting her one of these beautiful porcelain vintage jars from HeyDay Designs from Vancouver.  I can’t wait for it to arrive — I want to get one too but will have to save up for a bit!

Mini cherry pie & greek yogurt.

My Dad and brother Tom reading magazines and the internet in our living room.
Byron hanging out.

I absolutely LOVE the Ironwood.  Hands down one of my favourite music venues ever!

a day in my life…

Today, a day in my life was featured on Sadie Designs, one of my absolute favourite blogs from Vancouver.  I can’t wait for summer to officially arrive — a day in my life drastically changes once the sun starts shining round me.  I get out way more, lots of bike rides, picnics, night-time rides for ice cream, out to the mountains….I am a true summer gal at heart.

Anyways, in other news, have you entered my giveaway? Please do!  The Calgary Underground Film Festival is SO much fun!  Apparently, the opening night tonight was SOLD OUT!  Enter the contest!!!

I am sleepy after a long day of work, a wonderful extended coffee date with Marbella, freelance work, and party planning.  Off to dreamland, friendo’s! xo
